Held only once every five years or so, the Sunnyside Resident Gala is a special occasion—an evening that brings together residents, friends, and community partners in celebration of shared purpose and generosity. This year’s theme, Twilight, Tapas & Tunes, set the stage for an evening dedicated to the Fellowship Fund, Sunnyside Communities’ longstanding promise that no resident will ever walk alone.
A passing rain shower greeted guests as they arrived at Brix & Columns Vineyard, but the weather didn’t dampen spirits. Umbrellas opened, laughter carried across the patio, and as the clouds cleared, the sky revealed one of those brilliant post-storm evenings—cool, clear, and full of promise. Guests shared tapas, local wine, and conversation among the vines as the event found its rhythm again, turning into a night that felt equal parts celebration and homecoming.
Silent auction tables drew steady crowds—neighbors leaning over clipboards, comparing bids, and smiling at the familiar rhythm of friendly competition.
After dessert was served, Cindy Noftsinger, Director of Development, opened the program with a message about the heart of the evening. Her remarks were followed by Josh Lyons, President and CEO, who shared words of gratitude and reflection, underscoring the strength and generosity that define Sunnyside’s community. A short video deepened the message—putting faces and stories to the mission, and reminding everyone why this work matters.
The energy lifted as auctioneer Hoyle Laughlin took the stage for the live auction. Bidders vied for treasures both local and rare—a private Italian wine tasting with sommelier Nancy Priest Wait, a striking abstract painting by Bette Ridgeway, a mountain retreat for two, even a custom pet portrait. Each bid reflected more than generosity; it reflected shared commitment.
As twilight turned to night, Robbie Limon closed the evening with familiar songs and easy humor, giving the gala the feel of a reunion—of neighbors, friends, and a mission carried forward together.
Final totals are still being counted, but early estimates show that the overall effort raised roughly $115,000 net in support of the Fellowship Fund—a remarkable show of generosity that will help ensure residents across Sunnyside Communities continue to have a place to call home, even when life takes an unexpected turn.
The success of the evening was made possible by the leadership of co-chairs Mary Jane Kirkland and Carolann Wait, a dedicated committee of residents and staff, and dozens of sponsors, vendors, and volunteers who gave their time and heart to make it all happen.
