In the fall, the lobby at Summit Square was transformed into a sea of color and warmth as residents gathered for Hats Galore—a handmade sale created by three residents with one shared goal: to give back.

The event, held from 1 to 4 p.m., featured more than fifty hand-knit hats, along with mittens, washcloths, and other cozy items crafted by residents Annie Foerster, Sarah Baldwin, and Meg Haislip. All proceeds benefited the Summit Square Employee Christmas Fund, which supports staff members during the holiday season.

What started as a small idea last spring quickly grew into something much bigger. After finishing a sweater in May, Foerster decided to put her leftover yarn to good use. “I wanted to do something with purpose,” she said. “This felt right.”

When fellow knitters Baldwin and Haislip heard about the project, they joined in—adding their own skills, creativity, and heart. With Summit Square’s support, the women organized the one-day sale and spent the summer and fall knitting together.

The result was more than a successful fundraiser. Hats Galore became a celebration of community spirit—a way for residents to express gratitude to the staff who make Summit Square feel like home.

In a place where generosity is part of everyday life, even a few balls of yarn can turn into something extraordinary.
