Two vintage cars are parked on a grassy field during what appears to be a community car show. In the foreground is a shiny red convertible Chevrolet with the top down, chrome accents, and fuzzy dice hanging from the rearview mirror. Next to it is a bright blue classic muscle car with a sleek design. Trees and residential homes can be seen in the background under a partly cloudy sky.

Residents, staff and guests from across the county gathered Friday for the annual Cruise-In at King’s Grant Retirement Community, where classic cars, community spirit and sunshine were on full display.

Cars and trucks from nearly every era lined the campus—polished, prepped and proudly on show. From vintage roadsters to mid-century muscle cars, the event offered a nostalgic look back for longtime car lovers and a chance for younger attendees to experience automotive history up close.

Residents, team members and visiting families wandered the rows of vehicles, enjoying conversation, live entertainment, and summer treats including free food, ice cream and snow cones.

“The Cruise-In is one of those events that really shows how connected we are to the community around us,” said James Souter, executive director of King’s Grant. “It’s always a joy to see residents light up when they spot a car that reminds them of their youth—or share stories with guests who stop by. There’s a real sense of belonging here, and that’s what makes this event so special.”

The Cruise-In has become a signature event for King’s Grant, drawing increasing crowds each year from the Martinsville-Henry County area and beyond. Many of the cars are brought in by local owners—some with direct ties to King’s Grant, others who come simply to share their passion for restoration and design.

With blue skies overhead and a welcoming atmosphere all around, the day offered more than just a glimpse of classic cars—it showcased the spirit of connection that defines the King’s Grant community.
