The Broaddus Vitality Center (BVC) opened for fitness enjoyment on March 1, 2021 and since then has been booming with activity. Open six days per week, the BVC features a pool, hot tub, locker rooms, group fitness studio, indoor walking track (20 laps= 1 mile) and a wide variety of fitness equipment to improve strength, flexibility, balance and endurance.

Extremely popular is the indoor track which also allows staff to conduct new endurance walking tests as part of its individual fitness evaluations. Additionally, Sunnyside offers about 24 land-based fitness classes each week including Yoga, Tai Chi, Cardio Drumming, Line Dancing, Pilates and more! TRX small group sessions now allow residents to leverage gravity and bodyweight to perform hundreds of strength training and stretching exercises.

The spacious fitness studio is large enough for Pickleball activities which has become a new favorite sport for some residents. The 20’ x 56’ pool is busy with lap swimming and aqua classes that range from gentle range-of-motion classes to more vigorous aqua aerobics class.

Quickly becoming a favorite class is Ai Chi which incorporates Tai-Chi style movements with deep breathing. The new state-of-the-art HUR Senso facilitates interactive motor training activities and gaming that trains and improves balance, agility and cognition.
More than 60% of Sunnyside’s independent living residents are exercising and taking advantage of the new facility.
