Josh Lyons
Sunnyside Communities is proud to share that President and CEO Josh Lyons has been elected to the Board of Directors for LeadingAge Virginia, the statewide association representing nonprofit aging services providers across the Commonwealth.
A highly respected voice in senior living, Lyons brings more than 24 years of experience leading mission-driven organizations that prioritize resident well-being, staff engagement, and operational excellence. Since taking the helm of Sunnyside Communities in 2020, he has guided the organization’s three Life Plan Communities—Sunnyside in Harrisonburg, King’s Grant in Martinsville, and Summit Square in Waynesboro—through a time of innovation and continued growth.
“Josh is a thoughtful, forward-thinking leader whose collaborative approach aligns seamlessly with our mission,” said Melissa Andrews, president and CEO of LeadingAge Virginia. “His expertise will be a tremendous asset to our board and to our member organizations.”
Under Lyons’ leadership, Sunnyside Communities has achieved numerous milestones. These include modernizing technology systems across campuses, earning the NuStep Pinnacle Award from the International Council on Active Aging for three consecutive years, and maintaining 5-star ratings from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services at all three communities.
Lyons’ leadership style is rooted in servant leadership—focusing on people first, cultivating strong team cultures, and fostering partnerships that benefit residents, staff, and the wider community. He currently serves as board chair for First Choice Home Health, has held multiple nonprofit leadership roles, and previously served a four-year term on the Dayton Town Council. He is also an active Rotarian and Freemason.
“I’m honored to join the LeadingAge Virginia board and collaborate with peers who are deeply committed to the future of aging services,” Lyons said. “Our industry is at a pivotal moment, and I look forward to working together to meet the opportunities ahead.”
LeadingAge Virginia represents more than 100 nonprofit organizations, including Life Plan Communities, assisted living, nursing homes, hospice, and other home and community-based services.
