At Sunnyside, we often say that what makes our community so special is the people who call it home and the employees who care for them. Sometimes, however, those words are best expressed by the residents themselves.
On October 7, 2026, Dr. Fred Fox celebrated his first anniversary as a resident of Sunnyside’s Grattan Price Villas. To mark the occasion, he shared a heartfelt reflection on his first year, the challenges he has faced, and the compassionate care he has received along the way.
His message is a beautiful reminder of the importance of community, the peace of mind that comes with access to quality healthcare, and the extraordinary difference our employees make in the lives of residents and their families.

Joyful to Be Alive

Today marks my one year anniversary of residency at Sunnyside living at Grattan Price Villas. I have more than appreciated the generous, thoughtful, and professional help from ALL the Staff – from a major renovation, to every aspect of maintenance, to Healthcare . Most especially to the recent stay in Healthcare while recovering from pneumonia and a fractured pelvis which landed me in the hospital for a week followed by six days in Healthcare. I was reassured that Sentara and Sunnyside could and did provide the care I needed. It also gave reassurance to my sons living thousands of miles away that my care was assured. I am so grateful to the entire Staff that I can’t encourage each of you enough to SUPPORT THE EMPLOYEES APPRECIATION FUND.
