Sunnyside Retirement Community in Harrisonburg is pleased to welcome Jon Burchard, MA, MEd, EdS, NCC, LPC, to campus. Jon is a licensed professional counselor with more than three decades of experience helping individuals, couples, and families navigate life’s challenges with grace, faith, and understanding.

Beginning Friday, November 7, Jon will be on campus every Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., offering counseling services right in Chaplain Cynthia Long’s office space. Residents can receive compassionate, confidential support without ever leaving campus—making it easier than ever to access care, connection, and hope.

Jon is part of In Him Christian Wellness (www.inhimchristianwellness.org), a nonprofit organization that provides professional counseling through both biblical and clinical approaches. As a nonprofit, In Him Christian Wellness ensures services are accessible to everyone, regardless of their ability to pay. They offer a simple process to determine what each client can afford, supplementing care for others through about $50,000 in annual support.

Counseling services include individual, family, and marriage counseling, and Jon is also available to meet with staff members who wish to utilize his services.

Session costs:
• Intake sessions: $150
• Subsequent sessions: $125
Each session lasts just under an hour. A 24-hour cancellation notice is required, with a $70 fee for missed appointments. Grace will be extended for the first instance.

Jon brings a wealth of experience and a deeply compassionate approach to his work. He has counseled in churches, community mental health agencies, and public schools, and he is a member of the American Association of Christian Counselors. His work focuses on depression, anxiety, grief and loss, marriage and family relationships, and addiction recovery.

“We’re so pleased to welcome Jon to Sunnyside,” said Nancy Wayland, Executive Director at Sunnyside Retirement Community. “His compassionate approach and deep experience in counseling align beautifully with our mission of caring for the whole person—mind, body, and spirit. Having him on campus provides both residents and staff with meaningful access to support, encouragement, and hope.”

Jon’s connection to Sunnyside runs deep. His parents were once residents in The Highlands, and during their time here, he witnessed firsthand the warmth, faith, and sense of belonging that define the Sunnyside community.

Jon and his wife recently returned to the Shenandoah Valley after spending several years in Pennsylvania, where she retired as a professor from Messiah University. Together, they look forward to this new season of life—one centered on family, faith, and helping others find restoration and peace.

Residents who are interested in scheduling a session with Jon can contact In Him Christian Wellness directly.

At Sunnyside, care for the whole person means more than physical wellbeing—it means nurturing the heart, mind, and spirit. With Jon’s presence on campus, that commitment continues to grow, reminding us all that hope and healing are never far from home.
