Sunnyside Retirement Community’s Assisted Living residents welcomed visitors from Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community (VMRC) for a special collaborative event that brought both groups together for an afternoon of fishing, food, and fellowship.
The gathering marked the first joint event between the two Assisted Living communities. Residents met at Sunnyside’s pond, where they spent the afternoon fishing before enjoying a pizza party at the pavilion. In total, about 40 residents participated in the event.
“It was marvelous to connect with another community and share our spaces with friends,” said Cari Helbig, Life Enrichment Coordinator at Sunnyside. “We’re always looking for ways to build relationships and create meaningful experiences for our residents.”
The event was part of Sunnyside’s ongoing effort to encourage connection, social engagement, and collaboration with other senior living communities in the Shenandoah Valley.
