Seven Sunnyside United States Veterans participated in the Honor Flight – Top of Virginia mission recently. They took a charter bus to Washington D.C. where they visited the World War II, Korean and Vietnam memorials. They had lunch at the Air Force Memorial, had a special viewing of the changing of the guard at Arlington National Cemetery and ended the day with a hero’s welcome home in Harrisonburg where they were treated with dinner and musical entertainment. All this was free to the veterans!
Honor Flight – Top of Virginia is a hub of the Honor Flight Network which was created solely to honor America’s veterans for all their sacrifices. They transport our heroes to Washington D.C. to visit and reflect at their memorials. Top priority is given to senior veterans, WWII survivors and other veterans who may be terminally ill.
