King’s Grant Retirement Community, a beautiful 120 acre retirement community with approximately 190 residents located in Martinsville, Virginia is seeking a Director of Human Resources. King’s Grant is one of three campuses in the Sunnyside Communities family and is faith-based, full-service not-for-profit continuing care retirement organization with its corporate headquarters in Harrisonburg, Virginia. This highly visible role will be part of the King’s Grant senior leadership team.

 

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • All aspects of the hiring process. Ensuring that all pre-employment screening processes are followed and documented, while filling positions quickly with high-quality candidates
  • Advises leaders on matters of policy while guaranteeing consistent and fair administration of policies. Escalates concerns as appropriate
  • Administers performance management program, completing performance evaluations on a timely basis
  • Schedules and records mandatory training to meet federal and state regulations
  • Ensures that all federal, state and local reporting requirements are accurately maintained
  • Educates employees on company benefit plans and enrollment process while completing paperwork in a timely manner
  • Enters new hire pay and benefit information into payroll system accurately and on time. Coordinates with the director of payroll and benefits regarding any employee questions or issues
  • Maintains up-to-date employment records and policies, keeping them audit/survey ready
  • Conducts new hire orientation, making sure all applicable records and forms are received from employees and retained
  • Process and assist management of workers compensation claims
  • Tracks HR and safety metrics, providing reporting to the executive director and corporate staff as appropriate
  • Manages FMLA process for the campus
  • Responds to unemployment claims on behalf of King’s Grant
  • Develops action plans to address employee concerns and works with the leadership team to implement them. Reports to the executive director and vice president of employee relations regarding the progress of action plans
  • Works with the executive director and vice president of employee relations on the development of HR related policies and procedures. Develops and communicates plans to employees
  • Plans and coordinates employee recognition programs in concert with executive director
  • Prepares and or assists in the preparation of corrective action documents. Coaches and advises leaders on correction action plans. Escalates issues as appropriate to the executive director and vice president of employee relations
  • Models ethical behavior at all times, ensuring the corporate code of ethics is well communicated and enforced

Qualifications:

  • Education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in human resources or related field
  • PHR/SHRM-CP or SPHR/SHRM-SCP certification
  • Five (5) or more years of experience in human resources management
  • Experience in a senior living or healthcare setting preferred
  • Competent in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
  • Willingness and ability to master the use of timekeeping, payroll, scheduling and reporting systems
  • Valid drivers license
  • Ability to work a schedule that is consistent with the needs of the campus including nights, weekends and holidays as required
