BRIEF DESCRIPTION: The primary responsibilities of the Director of Nursing (DON) are to assume authority, responsibility and accountability for the delivery of nursing services in the facility. Administration of the Pannill Healthcare center – through mission, vision, standards, interdepartmental team building, strategies to promote communication and collaboration, policies and procedures, determining staffing needs, budgeting and sources of reimbursement. Managing and developing staff through recruitment, hiring, orientation, performance appraisals, discipline, staff development, time management and stress management. Resident care through assessment, care planning, managing clinical emergencies, safe medication administration, ethical issues, residents’ rights, infection control and integrative care. Quality assurance and assessment through critical thinking, root cause analysis, systems reviews, performance improvement and quality assurance. Legal issues through development of excellent resident and family relationships, immediate complaint investigation and required reporting. Regulatory compliance through understanding the federal and state regulation requirements, ensuring good quality surveys and instituting plan of corrections as needed. Collaboration through cooperation with other departments, medical professionals, consultants and organizations, including government agencies and advocacy groups to develop, support and coordinate resident care, related administration functions and to represent the interests of the facility.
  • Education and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in Nursing
  • Must have current RN license through Virginia Board of Nursing
  • Gerontological Nursing Certification preferred
  •  Comprehensive knowledge of state and federal regulations and the ability to ensure compliance
  • Demonstrate high degree of leadership, organizational ability and communication skills
  • Knowledge of long-term care management, policies, budgeting, personnel management and census development is required
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in nursing administration and supervision required
  • Current CPR certified or ability to obtain
  • Good time management; ability to multi-task while maintaining attention to detail and having good organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently as part of a team, exercise flexibility, initiative, problem solving, critical thinking, good judgement and discretion
  • Ability to work with confidential information and maintain its integrity
  • Strong written and verbal communication sills; ability to read and comprehend all types of written materials, strong phone etiquette and ability to speak with appropriate grammar
  • Operates personal computer, printer, copy machines and other general office equipment; electronic medical records preferred
  • Strong customer service skills; maintain a hospitality approach when engaging all individuals
SHIFT/HOURS: Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. and available 24 hours a day to handle questions/emergencies
